Performing Arts

 

The Arts entertain, challenge, provoke responses and enrich our knowledge of self, communities, world cultures and histories. They play a major role in the development and expression of cultures, communities, locally, nationally and globally. Across The Arts students develop the knowledge and skills to critically reflect on their cognitive, affective and sensory responses to Arts practices. Arts content, skills and processes inform decision making and aesthetic choices with increasing sophistication across the years of learning.he Arts entertain, challenge, provoke responses and enrich our knowledge of self, communities, world cultures and histories. At RSHS, Arts subjects are only compulsory within Year 7/8 with Media and Drama being explored in Year 7 and Art and Music in Year 8. From Year 9 onwards Arts subjects are elective and the courses offered are yearlong. Currently, the Essential Learnings and Learning Statements from the Queensland Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework form the basis of Arts curriculum in the Junior School. However, the Arts Australian Curriculum will be implemented within the Junior School in 2016.

 

Junior Arts students are provided with opportunities to appraise or respond to a variety of traditional and contemporary arts pieces. In addition to making or creating and presenting art pieces through the exploration of a wide range of media, techniques and processes. They reflect on their work, and that of others’ in order to extend their learning.

 

A variety of Arts courses are offered within the Senior School that take into consideration a variety of student needs and potential career pathways. Students can select from Senior Art, Drama and/or Music, which are Board subjects that will lead to the award of an Overall Position (OP). Visuals Arts in Practice is also offered and is Board Registered and non-OP.
