The LOTE department at Rockhampton State High School provides a full and rich language experience to students through an innovative and modern blend of curriculum and pedagogy. Students are given the opportunity to participate in rich immersive language and cultural experiences, including in-school culture days, visits to points of interest in the community, and international travel. In Japanese, our students have many opportunities to develop their skills by interacting with native speakers at school, in the homestay environment, through participation in our enormously popular biennial trip to Japan.
We have enjoyed sister school relationships for 11 years, and on an biennial basis, welcome Hashimakita Senior High School from Japan into our school community for cultural and language enrichment.

The LOTE Department has experienced and enthusiastic staff. Both staff members have studied in Japan and promote language learning through “real life” situations.

The LOTE department consists of the following members:
Suzanne MacCallum - LOTE Coordinator
Brooke Lindley - LOTE Teacher
Japan Tour
The pinnacle of the LOTE cultural experience, the Japan Tour offers the students unrivalled language and cultural experience in Japan. The ultimate immersion experience, students will live, breathe, and study Japanese for a 3 week block.
Students are currently organising to travel to Japan from November 28th to December 18th 2015. The previous trips have been thoroughly enjoyed by students. The visit allows students to immerse themselves in the language and gives them a first hand look at the Japanese culture and country.
