The school has a prefect group which consists of two school captains, four vice captains and a number of prefects. The number of prefects is determined by the number of successful applications – there is no set figure. These positions are established for Year 12 students only.

School captains and vice captains represent the school at various functions during the year and are frequently called on to deliver speeches. They are role models for younger students and their peers at school and in the wider community.

An important part of their role is to support the Administrative and school staff in the day to day operation of the school. The position requires skills in organisation, leadership, cooperation and motivation.

Prefects also represent the school in community and school events and are positive role models to other students. They are expected to be active in organising and participating in various committees that promote student welfare and contribute to community projects.

School captains, vice captains and prefects are elected by their peers and by staff members. Their application for the position requires a written statement, an interview and, in the case of school captains, the delivery of a speech to Year 12 students and staff.

Selection Criteria include:

1. Student must be on Level Gold (Level 1) of the Behaviour Code.

2. Student must have signed the Senior School Agreement.

3. An exemplary attendance record must be evident.

4. Academic achievement and industry must be of a high standard.

5. Participation in school and community activities (relevant achievements in sport, culture, work, voluntary activities, community groups, etc.)

6. Skills which the student possesses or can acquire which will help in the chosen role; for example, consider leadership, organisation, cooperation, ability to motivate, communication, public speaking and others.

Another important student leadership role for Year 12 students is that of Sports House Captain and Vice Captain. For each of the four sports houses, there are two captains and two vice captains. The selection procedures and the application are similar to the prefect system.

Student leadership programs for other year levels are developed through activities such as fundraising, RAP, school camps, and participation in a broad range of school events.
