Special Education Unit
The SEU caters primarily for Special Education - catering for students who are ascertained - Intellectual Impairment (II), Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Aspergers Syndrome, Speech Language Impairment (SLI), Visual Impairment (VI) and Hearing Impairment (HI).
Our goal is to support the implementation of an inclusive curriculum which allows students to achieve their potential within a supportive school environment. This may include supported attendance in 'mainstream' classes or participation in alternative programs and activities that provide specific skills and learning opportunities, depending upon the individual students needs.
The Special Education Unit supports teachers of students with Special Needs by offering in-class support where possible and the supply and/or modification of appropriate resources as well as tutorials where possible.
Individual Education Programs (IEP’s) focus on Lifeskills, Numeracy, Literacy, Social Skills, Communication, Personal Development and Behaviour. Class Teachers take an active role in the IEP process. Tutorial time is available for students with a disability to assist with assignment, classwork and homework.
The SEU has a particular focus on Work Readiness training, incorporating as much work experience as possible as a priority for students with a disability once they turn 14 years of age. This is provided to help them develop the necessary skills to be able to enter the workforce once they have completed their education.
The Special Education Unit is part of the whole school community and therefore endeavours to play a support role for any student at Rocky High.
The SEU is located in downstairs C wing. Please feel free to contact any member of our team for help or advice about students/planning etc.
