The Mathematics Department at Rockhampton State High School is staffed by 15 motivated and enthusiastic teachers ranging from graduates to Senior teachers.
All students at this school study mathematics.
The maths we offer to students in the Junior school ranges from Level 4 to Beyond 6. The Junior curriculum is organised such that all students complete basic Level 4 work as a solid grounding for Years 9 and 10. At the end of Year 8 students are guided into the correct stream, either essential, core or extension, for study in Years 9 and 10. We strive to maximise each student’s individual outcomes.
The Senior school students choose from the SAS PreVocational maths and the QSA subjects: Mathematics A, Mathematics B and Mathematics C.
The school also offers students the chance to participate in a range of extra-curricula competitions such as: Maths Teams Challenge, Pacific Coal maths Competition and the Australian Mathematics Competition.
The Mathematics Department is highly responsive to the needs of the students in its care. The courses are reviewed every year to make sure they fit the needs of the students currently in them. We strive to ensure all Junior students at least meet the minimum requirements of the syllabus, while providing the basis for a strong mathematical experience to enable success in the higher level mathematics subjects in Senior.
Mathematics is a highly regarded skill in society. To reflect this we ensure our Year 11 and 12 students are meeting the needs and standards of employers and Tertiary institutions. Prevocational Mathematics has been designed and modified, through employer feedback, to ensure our students cover material required for apprenticeships and traineeships. Tertiary bound students are well catered for with our higher level academic subjects, Maths A, B and C.
