Overview
English is part of the core curriculum at Rockhampton High School, and is a compulsory subject in both the Junior and Senior School.
In the Junior School, we are incorporating the Essential Learnings from the Queensland Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework. Students are given opportunities to interpret, construct and evaluate texts representing a wide range of knowledges, cultures, people and events. They reflect on their own and others’ language choices to achieve particular purposes, and how they can apply their learning in future situations.
The English course in the Senior School is designed to address the range of needs for students choosing tertiary or alternative pathways. Thus, students select from Senior English, which is a Board subject leading to an Overall Position Score, or English Communication, which is Board Registered and non-OP.
