Junior Curriculum

Rockhampton State High School offers an exciting Junior Unitised Curriculum, with over 150 subjects on offer over three years. The subjects cover all the Key Learning Areas and provide opportunities for students to succeed in a wide variety of endeavours. Areas covered include Robotics, Aviation, Marine Studies, Comedy, Racing Cars, Agriculture, Specialty Cooking, Coaching, Outdoor Pursuits, Computer Programming, Rock Music, The Environment, Global Art, Business, Immersion Language Programs, Graphics and more. Students select units annually, and each subject unit runs for a semester. Many subjects are offered at multiple levels to enable every student an opportunity to achieve and extend themselves.

Senior Curriculum

Curriculum features include:

  • The agricultural courses that are offered in the junior and senior school. The school is fortunate to have its own farm on the school site. It has prize winning Braham Stud cattle, market gardens, hydroponics facilities and an extensive collection of farm machinery.
  • The largest number of information technology subjects of any school in the district. Over 80 per cent of our students are enrolled in these courses.
  • The recent purchase of state of the art data processors that allow our students to perform sophisticated science experiments. This is a resource that is shared with our primary feeder schools.
  • The Arts Department every year displays and presents their talent through an annual event called Music, Arts, Drama, Dance - MADD.
  • Year 11 and 12 Tourism and Hospitality students experience a working environment for a week at Sea World Nara on the Gold Coast.
  • Students experience Japanese Language immersion through a 3 week trip to Japan. The school also has a Japanese Guest Teacher who plays a key role in the immersion program.
  • The Japanese CLIP Program offers an accelerated and continuous language program that commences in Year 3 at Crescent Lagoon State School and continues to be taught into the senior and university levels. This is a strong teaching and learning partnership that Rockhampton State High School shares with Crescent Lagoon State School.
  • A Cultural Rugby League exchange between Rockhampton State High School and the Outwood Grange College, Wakefield, in West Yorkshire, England. Two of our students were guests of the College as part of a three month rugby league tour in England and two English players will join our school for term three
