The Resourceful Adolescent Programme (RAP)

Adolescence is a time of considerable change. Various emotional difficulties, such as stress, anxiety or depression, may arise during this period due to any number of stressful circumstances: the demands of study, performance expectations, peer pressure, family disturbances and many other factors.

Young people who cope best with this period are those with the skills to deal with their emotions, deal with other people, generate solutions to problems they experience and feel good about themselves. This period of adolescence is a prime time to help young people learn new skills to deal with difficult issues in constructive and resourceful ways.

The Resourceful Adolescent Program (RAP) is a well researched, Australian based, resilience building program designed to promote positive coping abilities and the maintenance of a sense of self in the face of stressful and difficult circumstances.

RAP at Rockhampton State High School occurs in term 1, year 8 and is delivered by our trained Form Teachers. The programme is delivered during our rich studies programme time of 140 minutes per week over 10 weeks.

The common thread that runs through the program is the teaching of techniques to build positive relationships and to learn strategies which can maintain self-esteem in the face of stress and difficult interpersonal situations.

In general terms, the Resourceful Adolescent Program aims to address the following areas:

·       Personal Strengths

·       Cognitive Restructuring

·       Keeping Calm

·       Problem Solving

·       Support Networks

·       Interpersonal Problem Solving

·       Keeping the Peace

The intent of this programme is to provide the basis for building positive relationships for our year 8 students as they progress through secondary school years and beyond.

Breakfast Club

Every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8.00am, a breakfast is provided in the Assembly Hall for any students who wish to access this service.  Volunteer workers provide the service.
